Tropical Cyclone Alfred is predicted to bring significant rain, strong winds, and flash flooding to our community over the coming days.

School Closure

Due to safety concerns and transport networks not operating, Palm Beach Currumbin SHS will be closed on Thursday 6 March and Friday 7 March. Please ensure your child stays home on these days.

Our Commitment to Safety

As part of our disaster management protocol, we follow the advice of emergency services and always act in the best interests of students, staff, and the wider community. This decision is based on the assessment of current conditions and risks associated with movement in and around our area.

Staying Informed

We will continue to provide updates to families via:

  • Text message (primary communication method)
  • Email
  • Social media

Further information regarding arrangements for Monday 10 March will be shared as soon as possible across these platforms.

Student Absences

Absences due to emergencies and natural disasters or when a school is officially closed will not be recorded on student report cards.

School Reopening

We are in regular contact with the Department of Education and emergency services and will keep you informed about any developments, including when we expect school to reopen. Up-to-date information on school closures can be found at closures.qld.edu.au.

Monitoring the Situation

We encourage families to stay informed by:

  • Listening to ABC Gold Coast Radio (91.7FM)
  • Following emergency services’ social media accounts
  • Checking the Bureau of Meteorology for weather updates: www.bom.gov.au
  • Remember: If it’s flooded, forget it.

Looking After Your Wellbeing

These circumstances can be challenging, and it’s important to take care of yourself and your family. We encourage you to access support resources for parents and students to help maintain health and wellbeing during this time.

Thank you for your ongoing support. We hope the impact of this event on our school and community will be minimal. Stay safe.
