This year, Ms Bianca Crandall steps into a new role as Head of Teaching & Learning (Curriculum). She is passionate about inspiring students to feel confident and capable, especially when tackling challenging subjects. Bianca believes in creating a classroom where students feel supported, safe to make mistakes, and encouraged to explore their potential.

Why did you become a teacher?

I became a teacher because I wanted to inspire students, especially those who are shy or unsure, to feel confident engaging in learning. I wanted students to feel seen, supported, and capable, even when a subject feels challenging.

What do you love most about being a teacher?

Most teachers talk about the "light bulb moment" and it really is true. Watching a student who has struggled with a concept finally understand it and seeing that moment of pride is incredibly rewarding.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Seeing that you have made a difference in a student's confidence, curiosity, or belief in themselves. Whether it is a breakthrough in class, a quiet thank you, or watching a student grow from hesitant to capable, those moments mean everything.

What is the biggest lesson teaching has taught you?

Patience. Real learning takes time, and every student’s journey is different.

How would you describe your teaching style?

I like to bring a bit of light-heartedness into my teaching. Being myself helps students feel comfortable being themselves too. I want my classroom to be a place where students do not feel pressure to be perfect and where it is safe to try, make mistakes, and learn without fear of judgement.

What is your favourite thing about working at this school?

The wonderful students and supportive colleagues. The sense of community, humour, and shared purpose is what makes coming to work each day meaningful and enjoyable. It is a privilege to work alongside such committed staff and to support the students in our care.
