PBC students laugh their way to Class Clowns state final
Palm Beach Currumbin State High School students Phoenix Oxenbridge and Cooper Nicholls have secured their place in the Queensland Class Clowns State Final after winning the Gold Coast heat of the national comedy competition.
The Year 11 duo took to the stage at Home of the Arts (HOTA) on Thursday 12 March, performing their original skit Dumber & Dumb. Competing against a strong line-up of high school comedians, Phoenix and Cooper stood out with their energetic delivery, slapstick humour and well-timed punchlines.
Judges praised the pair, noting they were “beyond impressed by the performance and silly sketches”.
Phoenix and Cooper will now represent PBC at the Class Clowns State Final at the Brisbane Powerhouse on Saturday 21 March.
Class Clowns is the national youth comedy development program run by the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, designed to support and showcase emerging young comedians from across Australia.
Both students are active members of PBC’s comedy program and have developed a strong on-stage dynamic, feeding off each other’s timing and playful style. Their performance blended classic comedy elements with their own fresh perspective, engaging the audience from start to finish.
