Background & Experience
· What made you decide to become a teacher?
No reason in particular. I guess I was always heavily involved and enjoyed school as a student. I guess I thought it would be a great place to work as well!
· What do you love most about being a teacher?
It’s hard to pick one thing. Every day is always different which keeps it challenging. However, I think the social interaction and relationships you build with both the students and staff that I love the most.

Classroom & Teaching Style
· How would you describe your teaching style?
My teaching style is best described as laid back and approachable, with a strong emphasis on building meaningful relationships with my students. I use humour regularly to create a relaxed and positive environment, break down barriers, and make learning enjoyable. While I maintain a firm and consistent structure, I’m always fair and understanding.
· What’s a memorable moment or success story from your teaching career?
One particular marine science student comes to mind, that I feel I didn’t really have as much interaction in class as I did a few other students. Years later she wrote me a letter to tell me how I’d inspired her to become a teacher. She mentioned class was fun, but it was just a simple smile and greeting at the classroom door every lesson was enough to have an impact.
· What’s the most enjoyable part of your day as a teacher?
The interactions with both staff and students. You could be having the worst day in the world, but having students go out of their way to come up and say g’day in the playground or classroom always makes me realise why I enjoy teaching.

Personal & Fun Questions
· What’s something students would be surprised to learn about you?
As a young fella visiting my girlfriend (now wife) who was nannying in London, we were lucky enough to visit and have morning tea with Princess Diana at Kensington Palace, her private residence.
· If you weren’t a teacher, what career would you have chosen?
Although I never thought of it at the time, in hindsight, I think I would have enjoyed a park ranger type role along the Great Barrier Reef somewhere.
Advice & Insights
· If you could have dinner with any historical or famous figure, who would it be and why?
As a marine science teacher, having dinner with Sir David Attenborough would be an absolute dream. I’d love the chance to hear firsthand about his experiences exploring the oceans, the species he’s encountered, and the changes he’s witnessed in marine ecosystems over the decades.
