Introducing our new 500mL biodegradable water bottles
Palm Beach Currumbin State High is continuing to look for practical ways to reduce our environmental impact and make more sustainable choices across our school community.
As part of this commitment, PBC is introducing 500mL Eco Bottles, providing a more environmentally responsible alternative to traditional bottled water.
The Eco Bottle is designed to offer the convenience of bottled water while addressing one of the major challenges associated with conventional plastic packaging. According to the product information, the 500mL bottle is 100% recyclable, 100% reusable and designed to biodegrade in landfill conditions.
A better bottle choice
Unlike conventional plastic bottles that can remain in the environment for hundreds of years, the Eco Bottle has been developed to biodegrade under landfill conditions. Testing referenced by the manufacturer uses ASTM standards D5511, D5526 and D5988, with the product information reporting 68% biodegradation by month 13 during testing. The manufacturer states the bottle is designed to ultimately biodegrade without leaving microplastic fragments or toxic residue behind.
Importantly, choosing the Eco Bottle does not mean changing the way we recycle at PBC. The bottle remains 100% recyclable, meaning it can still be placed into the appropriate recycling stream. It can also be reused before disposal.
