This year, Mr Trent Hage steps into a new role as Head of Department for Mathematics. With a strong background in science and maths, Trent is passionate about helping students discover how they learn best and build confidence in their own abilities.
What made you decide to become a teacher?
I was inspired by my own teachers as a student and I absolutely loved science and maths. Teaching felt like a way to share that passion and help students see the value and enjoyment in these subjects.
Was there a particular teacher who inspired you growing up?
Yes, Michelle McGeorge. She had a lasting impact on the way I viewed learning and teaching.
What do you love most about being a teacher?
Inspiring students and seeing that light bulb moment when you connect with them and spark their passion for learning.
How would you describe your teaching style?
I focus on helping students understand how they learn best. It’s not just about understanding the content, it’s about understanding yourself as a learner.
How do you keep students engaged and motivated?
By building trust and positive relationships. When students know you are in this with them, they are more willing to engage and challenge themselves.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received about teaching?
Find what you love and work incredibly hard at it. That’s where real fulfilment comes from.
