PBC has proudly participated in the Containers for Change program for many years. This initiative promotes the recycling of eligible 10-cent beverage containers, transforming waste into valuable resources that directly benefit our school.

Students and staff are encouraged to bring in containers such as water bottles, soft drink cans, and juice boxes, which are collected and redeemed to raise funds for PBC programs and initiatives.

The school has been involved in the Container Refund Scheme (CRS) since it was first established in Queensland in November 2018. Our program began strongly, with one of the earliest collections generating more than 10,000 containers and earning $1,000 for the school.

PBC has also hosted a successful community collection, where families and local residents brought in their eligible containers from home and donated them to support our sustainability efforts.

Through ongoing participation in the Containers for Change program, PBC continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement.

In total, PBC has collected more than 250,000 eligible 10-cent containers, raising over $25,000 since joining the program. In 2024 alone, our school raised more than $7,200, earning the title of Containers for Change School of the Year.

That same year, PBC participated in Express Recycling’s Battle of the Schools competition, which challenged schools to collect the highest number of containers across two categories:

  • Total containers collected, including community donations made through dockets at the Currumbin depot

  • Containers collected per student enrolled

Thanks to the outstanding efforts of our students, staff, and local community, PBC won both $500 prizes, collecting approximately 43,000 containers at school and reaching a total of 90,575 containers overall.

Combined, these efforts generated $1,000 in prize money and $4,300 from container refund.

The funds raised through the Containers for Change program are being reinvested into a range of sustainability initiatives across the school. These include projects aimed at reducing waste, improving recycling facilities, and supporting environmental education programs for students. By continuing to channel these earnings back into green initiatives, PBC is building a more sustainable campus and inspiring students to take an active role in caring for the environment.
