2020 update

20 March 2020

Statement from Education Minister Grace Grace

The expert health advice of chief health and medical officers remains that schools should remain open. But given the impact of COVID-19 on our schools, NAPLAN testing will not proceed in 2020.

The NAPLAN test window was scheduled to be held from 12 to 22 May 2020.
The valuable time of our school leaders, teachers and support staff should be spent either providing continuity of learning for our students or preparing to deliver possible curriculum at home.

I want to thank my state and federal colleagues for listening to Queensland’s call to move swiftly to cancel NAPLAN this year, allowing our hardworking teachers to continue providing a world-class education to our students during this unprecedented time.

2019

The 2019 NAPLAN results have been released and PBC has performed  well across many areas.

Naplan Performance Measures Summarised for PBC (PDF, 71kb)

Students in both Year 7 excelled across all domains against the nation in mean scores. A summary of data and school performance is available to review in the above link.

Our focus for 2020 will be in the development of training in writing practices for teachers to improve student writing skills.

This is just a moment in time view of how our students are performing and only one measure that we use to track their success and determine their next step, but we are very proud of the deliberate work that teachers at PBC as well as across our cluster primary schools have done in the last 12 months to develop numeracy and literacy skills in all students.
